Tru Access Blogs - Millennials Insights
The title of this post could have easily been “Do millennials exemplify Civil Disobedience?” And it almost was. Then I thought that millennials catch enough heat for being labeled as selfish, rebellious and disobedient that there was no need to add any fuel to that fire.  ..

Tru Access Blog - Leadership 101 for White Men
Leadership 101 for White Men; How to work successfully with Black Colleague’s and Customers... that is the title of the book. Not my book, but the title of a book that has recently emerged as the topic of conversation in my social media circle. The book was written in 2008 by Chuck Shelton. I have not read the entire book yet, but I have read the first several pages, so I will preface my commentary by acknowledging that. In the meantime, I’m compelled to share my thoughts based on what I’ve read thus far. ..

Oscars Host Gambles with Sex, Race and Violence

Tru Access Blog - The Oscars
Oscars host Seth MacFarlane did not receive a lot of love on social media last night during the airing of the 2013 Oscars. I was not in attendance, but it did not appear that he overwhelmed those in attendance with his performance either. We have grown to expect the hosts of these awards shows to be comedic and to make fun of the celebrities that are in attendance. One the reasons why a lot of the hosts that are selected are comedians is so that they can let their natural comedic talents shine through and keep the audiences entertained. Last night Seth MacFarlane’s attempt at humor was often misguided and misplaced. ..

The decision from the bail hearing for double amputee South African Olympian Oscar Pestorious was made today and the judge agreed to grant him bail. For those who may not have been following the case, Pestorious has been charged for the murder of his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp. He shot her to death on Valentine’s Day of this year and he says that he accidentally shot her, thinking that she was an intruder. This is obviously a tragic event and our condolences and prayers go out to Reeva Steenkamp’s family as well as to Prestorious and his family. ..

The “N” Word Flying High...

By Tru Pettigrew
Feb. 19, 2013 | Comments

I saw a story on the news this past weekend (2/18/13) about a 60 year old white man calling a 19 month old black baby the “N” word and then slapping the child. I couldn't believe what I was hearing, when the reporter first told the story. During a flight from Minneapolis to Atlanta on February 8th, 60 year old Joe Rick Hundley was sitting next to a woman, Jessica Bennett, and her 19 month old son Jonah, who began crying as the plane began to descend. According to reports, Hundley told Mrs. Bennet to “shut that ni##a baby up”! Obviously stunned and caught off guard by the comment, Mrs. Bennett asked Mr. Hundley what he said to make sure she wasn’t hearing things and he leaned in and repeated himself and proceeded to slap the child in the face. ..

The Pope Calls it Quits!

By Tru Pettigrew
Feb. 15, 2013 | Comments

As you may (or may not) know, the current Pope, Pope Benedict XVI announced that he would resign effective February 28, 2013. This is the first Pope to do so in the last 600 years. Pope Benedict’s decision has raised a lot of eyebrows and caused quite a stir in the Catholic church. It’s actually caused a lot of controversy outside of the Catholic church as well. People across the world have been sharing all sorts of conspiracy theories as to why the Pope quit. Theories range from pedophilia scandals and sexual misconduct to financial improprieties at the Vatican Bank. ..
