Congratulations to President Barack Obama for winning the 2012 Presidential Election and securing another four years in the White House as our President and Commander-in-Chief. This past 2012 election was full of angst, excitement and controversy and regardless of which candidate you supported, this election kept you wondering who would eventually win over the hearts and minds of the American people. After speaking to a number of people and tracking all the social media commentary pre, during and post election, it appears to me that the president was elected based just as much on his appeal and connectivity to the masses as he was for anything he accomplished as a first term President. This isn’t a knock on President Obama’s performance as much as it is an acknowledgement of the balance of leadership attributes that he employed throughout his campaign. At the end of the day, the role of President is about effective leadership and it appears to me as if that’s what the people responded to. Taking a look at the 5 C’s of leadership of Competence, Confidence, Commitment, Consistency and Concern, I believe the President’s display of these leadership attributes during his first term and during his campaign helped secure him another four years in the White House.
